Windsor, ON: In the spirit of working together to support community, and in light of recent conversations with the Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines (ENDM), ENWIN Utilities Ltd. (ENWIN), announced today that the company is joining many other Ontario LDC’s in offering relief to electricity customers whose accounts are in arrears. The utility is voluntarily extending the current mandated suspension of disconnection for residential services, which has been in place over the winter months, and has committed to a three-month extension without disconnection, effective today.

ENWIN says this change is being made to assist those who may be isolated at home, or otherwise suffering financial challenges, due to the COVID-19 virus.

“Some of our most vulnerable customers will be forced to stay home or work from home, potentially with reduced income,” said ENWIN’s CEO Helga Reidel. “We want them to know that we care, and that we are here to work with them as they strive to protect their homes and families in this very difficult time.”

“We hope a further period without disconnections can provide some measure of temporary relief to those customers who have the greatest need,” Reidel reiterated. “We have spoken with other utilities across Ontario, and we expect that many others will also extend this kind of helping hand.”

ENWIN will continue to issue late notices to customers who fall behind in their obligations, but will not send disconnection notices, make 48-hour disconnect calls or disconnect residential services.

“The safety and well-being of our community is always our main concern,” Reidel concluded. “We know that the community, our business and our employees will be stronger by supporting one another and working through this emergency together.”

A communications plan is in place to ensure that employees, stakeholders and the public will be updated about any developments and actions taken to address them. ENWIN will share information with the public through media releases, website postings and social media (Twitter).
