Sensus Meter Placement
On January 27, 2015 the Electrical Safety Authority issued an "Order" to all affected Ontario electrical utilities (local distribution companies) to take the precautionary measure of replacing and discontinuing the use of a specific model of electrical meter: the Sensus 3.2 with remote disconnect. There are only 274 of these meters in use in Windsor, all with customers who have MicroFIT projects. ENWIN is well aware of which customers have these meters, and will be contacting those affected, and installing replacements, at the earliest opportunity.
ESA has taken this step as a proactive and preventative measure. There have been no incidents involving these meters however the ESA has determined that these meters may be susceptible to arcing when water or other contaminants get into the meter. The risk of a serious safety event is very low. Nonetheless, ESA has taken the prudent, preventative step and directed that these meters be removed in order to eliminate the risk.
ENWIN is working on the replacement process now.
Note: customers should NOT try to alter or remove any electrical meter. Only personnel authorized by ENWIN should deal with meters.
