Windsor Regional Hospital

Windsor Regional Hospital is Awarded the Very First GreenSTAR Award (March 30, 2009)

Windsor Regional Hospital is a multi-site, community based hospital and health care complex serving a population of 400,000 people residing in the City of Windsor and Essex County. Not only are they responsible for increasing the lifespan of their many patients, but also recently took on an additional role of increasing the lifespan of our environment. In recognition of WRH taking a step towards a greener future, ENWIN Utilities is proud to award them with the very first GreenSTAR Award.

Since 2000, WRH has made a significant number of upgrades to their Metropolitan Campus allowing for a significant increase in Energy efficiency and an overall reduction of their Energy, Water and Natural Gas consumption.

Through the installation of a Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment System, Automatic Conductivity Meters, Occupancy Light Sensors, a Condensate Recovery System and Toilet Flush Meter Retrofits, Windsor Regional Hospital will save over 600kW of electricity, 2,206,000 litres of water and 98,000 cubic metres of gas, each and every year!

A previous retrofit of 2,827 T8 fixtures replacing the same number of T12 light fixtures will also contribute to a significant reduction in electrical consumption. Upon the completion of these retrofits, over 436kg of glass, 4.83kg of aluminum, 6.73kg of phosphor and 0.52kg of mercury were recycled and diverted from the landfill. WRH's ongoing internal recycling program permits approximately 26% of all hospital waste to be recycled.

Congratulations Windsor Regional Hospital on your tremendous accomplishment!!
