Green Suites

Green Suites is a conservation program specifically for the hotel and motel industry in Windsor. This new program is brought to you by EnWin Utilities and the Ontario Restaurant Hotel and Motel Association (ORHMA) with sponsorship from the Ontario Power Authority (OPA).

The Green Suites program offers specific benefits to Hotel and Motel owners in Windsor:

Green Suites provides incentives to help defray the cost of retrofits; however, the greatest value to you will be the year over year savings through energy efficiency. By making operations more efficient with new equipment, you will enjoy lower energy and maintenance costs. Energy retrofits can result in up to 30% decrease in energy costs per year.

Green Suites is scheduled to run from April 1, 2009 until May 31, 2010. All applications must be received by May 31st, 2010, and all projects completed by May 31, 2011.

Here are just a few examples of what can be achieved through simple retrofits:

The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa In 2006 the hotel completed an extensive lighting retrofit. It replaced 4440 bulbs with energy efficient florescent ones. As a result, the hotel saved over 203,000 kwh of energy and an annual cost savings of $61,000.

Delta Québec, Quebec City Depending on the age of the hotel, replacing older motors on fans, pumps, chillers and HVAC systems with new ones with variable frequency drives can result in dramatic savings. Over $8,000 was spent to replace 10 motors on the ventilation system for an expected saving of 1000 kilowatt hours or $2,600 per year.

Green Suites is a program that offers cash incentives for retrofits, but also provides opportunities for key hotel staff to learn about new technologies, how to jump into energy conservation and start greening up your entire operation. Lighting, heating and cooling; even motors and sensors have become much more efficient in the last few years. New equipment offers the great performance that you want for your hotel plus far greater efficiency than ever before.
