Electricity Retrofit Incentive Program
Retrofitting an Existing Facility with Newer Equipment?
The OPA appreciates that when a business is making choices between different equipment options the desired choice is usually for the most efficient solution; however, financing, timing, and other factors can lead to different equipment being installed.
The ERIP has been designed to influence customers' decisions in favour of the most electricity efficient upgrades. It focuses on the areas of lighting, motors, heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), and the overall electricity systems, as these areas cover the majority of electricity upgrades that businesses engage in today.

Project Classification & Incentives
The Electricity Retrofit Incentive Program is made up of two tracks:
- Prescriptive - This track has predefined technologies with corresponding per unit or performance basis savings measures. These projects will tend to involve replacements and upgrades to existing systems. The incentive provided to customers is based on the calculation of what they install.
- Custom - This track is available for those customers who are using a more specific solution to electricity efficiency retrofitting. For these projects all technology, equipment and systems are evaluated on the basis of their power and energy performance improvement, and the incentive offered is based specifically on the level of improvement.
